Fun Hands-On Activities and Projects With 4-H

Through hands-on activities and projects, youth ages 5 through 19 explore Healthy Living, Science and Technology, and Citizenship. The goal is to “Learn by Doing” while developing life and leadership skills. 4-H helps young people to reach their full potential as competent, confident, leaders of character who contribute and are connected to their communities. Whether youth are caring for animals, planting vegetables, or doing beach clean-ups, 4-H gives young people the skills they need to thrive and succeed throughout their lives.

Families work in the garden, harvest vegetables, prepare and cook them in the 4-H office kitchen, and have a potluck together. They are growing corn, lettuce, taro, beans, sweet peas, carrots, tomatoes, and many other vegetables and herbs. Youth learn about gardening and good nutrition as well as communication and problem-solving skills.

If you are interested in starting a 4-H club in Waikoloa Village, all you need is 1 adult and five children. 4-H provides support to new clubs by offering guidance on how to start a club, an orientation for new leaders, lots of club material that you can borrow, and phone and email support. They will help with ideas for activities, such as arts and crafts, creating a garden, field trips, and community service.

4-H is one of the oldest and most effective programs of non-formal education in Hawaii. It is open to youth ages 5-19 from all racial, cultural, economic, and social backgrounds.  Membership is free.
