Wiliwili Festival Sept 12 Waikoloa Stables

Waikoloa Dry Forest Initiative presents the 5th annual Wiliwili Festival 9/12 at the Waikoloa Stables from 9 am to 3 pm. Keiki activities, forest tours, music, local vendors, native plant giveaway, silent auction.

Paniolo Day Celebration at Parker School Waimea Sept 26

Parker School will host a day of celebration on Saturday, September 26, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Celebration activities inside Kahilu Hall will include talk-story with local historians, vintage photo displays, saddle and lei making, tours by student docents and a short film on the history of Parker Ranch. In addition, attendees will enjoy music and entertainment, a cooking demonstration, and interactive games for kids. This event is free and the community is encouraged to attend. Food and beverages will be sold to support varies programs at the school.

Hawaii Summer Science Camp 2015

FOR THE SUMMER OF 2015, Science Camps of America is hosting two sessions: Land & Sea Camp will be held June 29-July 8 and Air & Space Camp from July 9-18.

Science Camp is a unique opportunity for teens to get out into the field to learn science, do science, meet scientists, make new friends and enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Each day, we head out across the island to learn about volcanoes, the ocean, plants, animals, stars and more. Join us for this fantastic science learning adventure! A few scholarships and financial aid opportunities remain available.

26th Annual Newbery Quiz Bowl April 23 at Hapuna Beach Prince Resort Hotel

The Big Island 26th Annual Newbery Quiz Bowl has been underway since last spring when our young 4th, 5th, 6th & 7th grade readers began reading the forty Newbery-medal-winning titles on this year’s list.
 This year’s Newbery Quiz Bowl will be held on the west-side of the Big Island at the Hapuna Beach Prince Resort Hotel on Thursday, April 23, 2015, 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This academic bowl provides a day of competition and celebration for readers and their supporters. The activities are centered around answering questions based on the reading of the American Library Association’s Newbery Medal Books.  This bowl is jointly sponsored by Hawaii-Island school librarians & teachers, retirees, the U. S. Army at Pohakuloa, Waikoloa Friends of the Library, and a variety of Big Island businesses.

Registration opens for Science Camps of America Hawaii 2015

Begin your summer in the field exploring the volcanoes, rocks, forests, ocean and skies of the Big Island of Hawaii. At Science Camps of America in what has been called “nature’s greatest laboratory,” you will see science come to life as you experience geology, oceanography, ecology, climate, and astronomy, “up close and personal”. Practicing scientists will share their stories and show you the latest gear they use to further their work. Gain an understanding of our world that will surely have a life-long affect.

If you are a teen entering grades 8-12 and have a passion for fun and science, Science Camps of America is for you.

Congratulations to Newbery Quiz Bowl Winners

Congratulations to the Wildcats of Konawaena Elementary, who won the 25th annual Newbery Quiz Bowl. Other participants in the bowl were Haaheo, Hawaii Classical Christian Academy, Hilo Union, Holualoa, Hawaii Preparatory Academy lower, Hawaii Preparatory Academy middle, Kahakai Elementary, Kamehameha Middle School, Kealakehe Elementary, Kealakehe Intermediate, Kohala Elementary, Konawaena Elementary, St. Joseph, Waiakea Elementary and Waikoloa home-schooled students.

Registration Starts for 2014 Summer Science Camp for Teens

Science Camp is an amazing opportunity for teens to get out into the field to learn science, do science, meet scientists, make new friends and enjoy a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Each day, the camp heads out across the island to learn about volcanoes, the ocean, plants, animals, stars and more. Scholarships and Financial Aid are available.
